Posters' local time
For instance, because I live in the East European time zone, my time is 7 hours ahead of New York time - I go to sleep about 4 p.m. at NY time. So it's very slow to discuss with NY people who post usually after work: one post per day.
The situation itself is of course unavoidable but if everyone knew other posters' local time they could better take it into account. Posters would know better when to expect and not to expect responses from other continents.
The ideal solution is that a poster's local time runs in the name section in every post. It's obviously too heavy operation, so the running time could well be replaced by a time query button. What do you think, Scott?

Re: Posters' local time
A problem with displaying user-selected time-zones is that many users don't bother to set their timezone, not really caring that the times to all posts are then a certain number of hours off.
A workaround is to look up a user's posts and scan to see at what times the user usually posts.

Yes, and some members don't want to tell their location and some even tell false locations. I thought that timezone might be less informative regarding their identity.Scott wrote:Posters are able to set their location and it does display next to their name in every post. I understand this isn't exactly what you are looking for unless one can memorizes in what timezone every location falls.
As a new member I also found that new members are not allowed updating their profiles until they have 10 posts. That is a part of the problem: if you can't set your profile information immediately, you don't mind to do it later.Scott wrote:A problem with displaying user-selected time-zones is that many users don't bother to set their timezone, not really caring that the times to all posts are then a certain number of hours off.
