Swaida examines the psychological conflict immigrants experience when trying to hold on to their identity whilst adopting new cultures. With her journey to more than thirty nations, she deals with different types of cultural shock, racism, and the paradox of belonging whereby one feels “here” and “there” all at once. Furthermore, she has also noticed that racism is not as simple as “black and white.” It comes in different “shades of grey.”
Is it possible for migrants to find their home in a new country, or will the balance between nostalgia and being a new person always govern them?
