Because I need to be sharper

Post by HelioCentric » September 24th, 2018, 3:02 pm

Hey! I took a break from joining forums for a while; I wouldn't be as involved and eventually let my membership lapse. And the forums I joined were pretty juvenile and I no longer have any interest in returning.

But a mentor of mine recommended joining some political or philosophy forums in order to get better at crafting/rebutting/responding to arguments. I was always a **** debater in school, and just wrote myself off. I realized later on that there's "competitive debating," and then there's true argumentation, and getting at the topic honestly, intellectually, with no time for grandstanding. Thought I'd give it a shot and sharpen myself with some smart folks :D

Interests are, of course, general philosophy, but more specifically: ethics, religion, the arts, and so much more, but those three are what came to mind immediately. Thanks!

Hi Helio.

You may find yourself getting sharper here. But you should prepare yourself for the fact that some of the people here are very blunt. Be prepared to for some of them to insult you if you stick your neck out!

Those three are pretty much what I am focused on.

Thanks for the greetings, guys! Looking forward to involvement on the site, even if it means getting my butt kicked at times.

I guess if a poster called GeoCentric ever shows up here the sparks could fly.
