New guy intro. Where is eternity?

Post by Conodfam4 »

Hello peoples.
My name is John, I am 53 years old, married with two children and am living in Florida. I am a fleet mechanic for a shipping company and my wife and I own a small business. We have been together for 36 years.

This is the first forum I ever joined; and the reason is I have been drawn to metaphysics and transcendalism through an experience that took place 15 years ago. I thought it would be interesting to interact with like minded people.

Over the years I have developed some theories and thoughts about human existence, the mind, the soul, time, space, and eternity. I am hopeful that this forum will act as an outlet for the unpopular ideals that have been circulating and evolving in my mind.

Thanks for having me.

Welcome, eternity is just around the bend - or vice versa. :)

Hey, thanks for the response. I am interested to know what brings you here to the forum.
Mine is primarily from the experience I spoke of in the intro. It was a personality and life altering event that was not by choice.

Have you seen the Netflix series Travelers? The experience was something like that when a new consciousness takes over a body. There are differences however. In the show, the host goes through a moment of severe physical pain just before the new consciousness takes over. In my case the pain was long endered and was mental and emotional (anxiety, fear, depression, delusional, panic attacks) suffering for three or four years.

The details of it all are not important; I was absolutely miserable to a hopeless point of existence. Then, at the hight of it all something happened that removed all the pain and replaced it with clarity. Instantly years of mental anguish that was destroying me and my family was gone. I had become a different person and was like a child. And I knew what I was, but not sure what I had become. I still don’t know really.

Me? I originally joined the Forum because I became a member of the Ethics committee at my work. But that was a long time ago.

Are you more moved by the result of the event, or the event itself?

Is being the moderator of the forum your primary occupation? I am curious to understand the dynamics of the forum. How did it begin? What is the mission?

Regarding your question, both. A better word would be “driven”. The event was powerful and it opened my mind to the reality that there is something far bigger beyond this existence. Ever since the experience, I have been moved, moved to understand myself, humanity, spirituality, and eternity. The process over the past 13 or 14 years has brought me to many sources, scripture, philosophy, religion, transcendentalism, metaphysics, and so on. Although I still function as a husband, father, provider, and interests outside of the experience and it’s subsequent repercussions, it’s power prevents it from being placed to rest.

Hi Conodfam4.

Regarding the experience that you mentioned in your introduction: Do you regard yourself as having, in some sense, literally turned into another person? Can you tell us any more about the thing which happened to remove your mental anguish?

If you do regard yourself as having become a different person, what aspects of your personality have changed? I presume the fact that you can remember your previous life means that it's not all of them.

Hi Steve 3007
I will do my best to explain and answer your questions:
At the moment of the experience, I was in a state of deep anguish, despair, and desperation. I was at the end of my rope, so to speak.

This may involve more than one reply. It is complex and there is a sequence of events, including subsequent after effects.
There was a sudden vision of bright white light. I was out doors and it was late afternoon. I consciously thought or said to myself “what the hell is that”?
The enormous weight of my misery was instantly lifted and I felt awesome.
Then, as though down loading a program into a computer, I received understanding instantly taking my breath away. I saw everything, my ignorance, selflessness, arrogance, and I became aware of all the people I had hurt an mistreated. I was ashamed and desperately wanted to make right my wrongs.
I also remember feeling the fear that my wife was feeling as though for an instant I became her.
I was in this light and state for enough time to absorb the conditions of the experience. The visual effects were spectacular beyond explaining. Everything was perfect. My thoughts were perfectly clear with out confusion.
From that moment on, I had become a different person. My family saw it, and my friends and coworkers saw it because I apologized to all of them for what an ass that I was. Some had thought I lost my mind. But I did not care; it was something that had to be done.
I will finish later; the wife wants to go.

For what it's worth, Conodfam4, the Japanese (Buddhist) word for your experience is "Satori."

Alas, no. Scott's salary to me is somewhat below my current expenditure level. I suspect he can answer your questions about the origin of the Forum.
