Hello everybody,

About ten years ago I bought an iPod and started listening to various podcasts including philosophy. Now I find it's my favorite topic.

It seems philosophy underlies just about every aspect of humanity. Unfortunately philosophy gets a very bad wrap in contemporary society. It's difficult to remain open-minded and detached.

There is a philosophical society here but all they seem to be geared to is running classes which doesn't really appeal.

I was delighted to find a Philosopher's Cafe group advertised where I live. I went to the various cafes but nobody seemed to know anything about it. I suspect it was just some sort of marketing scheme. It does publish some interesting newsletters every now and then but I was more interested in a more existential experience if you know what I mean.

Anyhow, this forum seems to have amassed quite a gathering. Looking forward to interesting times ahead.

Happy to see new members who want to participate. Sometimes one gets tired of talking to the same handful of people about the same issues over and over. Fresh perspectives are good.

Welcome Meredith.

As well as talking here, for that "existential experience" you could try setting up your own local face-to-face philosophy discussion group. I did it myself in my local area several years ago using the Meetup.com website. I also found another philosophy discussion group about an hour's drive away using that website. The group I set up is still going, but I rarely go these days and it hasn't met for quite a while because face-to-face discussions are out of fashion at the moment, thanks to covid 19. We used to meet once a month in a local pub and talk over a drink. Sometimes we also had to talk over live music. Hopefully pubs and live music haven't been permanently consigned to the history books!
