Moi?

Post by Ishkah »

Hallo, I joined a place called the philosophical vegan forum a few years ago, and really enjoyed developing my arguments in debates over preference consequentialism, atheism, boycotts and all sorts. So thought I'd branch out to here.

Philosophy interests me because I think learning about hard questions gives us the freedom to think differently and pay closer attention to our reasoning that lead us to the place we're in.

I'm 27, grew up in North Wales, UK, with a Liverpudlian family. Have lived all over and work as a data archivist. Other interests include cycle touring, stand-up comedy, movies, tree house building, playing cards & ping-pong aha.

Welcome Ishkah.

One of my grandfathers was from North Wales, with connections to Liverpool. We're probably related!

Haha that's cool someone in your family moved from the city out to North Wales that far back, it's usually the other way round. One of my grandads moved to Liverpool from Dublin, then it was only my parents who moved us out to Wales when I was around 5 years old and most of the extended family are still around Liverpool.

Are you saying that the Welsh do not spread their seed far from their families?

And what, pray tell, would the wrong setting, the wrong roots and the wrong age look like?

Hard to say. Before I could answer your question I'd have to know a little bit more about you, I suppose.

I'm with Angel on this one. One of my favourite philosophers and wry commentators on the human condition, Nigel Blackwell, hails from the
Wirral Peninsula, that great buffer between North Wales and Merseyside.

Seriously?
I think you need more than location to do philosophy.
I lived in Lampeter for many a year. Being there did not more for my philosophy than living anywhere else.
I'd say staying in the same place, for a long time is actively injurious to your thinking and narrows your POV.
Travel, and spending living time in other places widens your mind.
I've lived in Wales, England, and the US, and spent time in Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and many European locations.
It all feeds the mind, as long as you do not take too much of your old location with you.
