Introductions

Post by Diascarus »

Greeting to all other philosophers world wide, I happen to find this website on a whim. I thoroughly enjoy philosophy, I can't see why I would study anything else. It's what I like to call the "stuff of life". Though yes, those are layman's terms, but I feel it's much easier to get your point across when speaking plainly. Though I admire the versatile vocabulary used within many works of Philosophy, I feel that's what strays a lot of others away.

My favorite field of Philosophy are Ethics and Philosophy of Politics. I look forward to talking with all of you.
Thank you!

I imagine that you will like Nietzsche then. He was akways one for simple wordings and language. If philosophy can't reach the common person, it is pointless, according to me.

Welcome Diascarus. On that subject of speaking/writing style: Clearly, if we want to be understood, there's no point deliberately obfuscating with obscure or ill-defined language. But surely, in any field, there are technical terms that are specific to that field and there's no harm in using them? Can't we assume, for the sake of brevity, that people talking about a particular subject are either going to be familiar with the terminology associated with that subject, and the sense in which particular words are used in the context of that subject, or are capable of looking it up?
