The "laws" of physics only share the word "law", they do not share any of its meanings.Dennis Blewett wrote: ↑February 7th, 2021, 7:58 pm Hello,
I am pursuing information on physics, for the most part. I recently got some flak at physicsforums dot .com. It appears there is the argument that my topic involved too much philosophy.
The implication of my research means to refute legal compatibalism using science (and philosophy where applicable).
It is no wonder that you got "flak"
Psychology is neither physics nor is it philosophy.
"I" was Genecks on philosophyforums dot com. After some research, I have come to believe aliases, such as Internet aliases are a form of dissociative identity disorder. As such is bad, I am using my name (although my research considers that may be no better).
As you do not have specific and detailed access to the content of the minds of those that use aliases you have no warrant to offer a blanket psychological assessment of what using an alias might mean. There are a host of reasons people might choose a handle different from their name.
I would also invite you to consider the fact that you are not your name. Your name is not an exhaustive account of your identity. It is a lable, there is no direct relationship from the signfied to the signifier; the relationship is purely arbitrary.
My own alias, far from dividing me from my identity adds information about me that my real name obscures.
Whatever free will might be, and I am a determinist. I think that free will is perfectly compatible with the idea that I am no compelled to chose an alias, and am otherwise perfectly free to have one or not.
A person does not have free will to use an alias. Thus, all aliases are actually dissociative identities that are unconsciously at work. Something like that.
