Greetings!

Post by PaulEBenjamin »

Hello! My name is Paul and I found this site simply by Googling "online communities where I can discuss philosophy".

I'm a 49 yr.old straight cis man in the United States (he/him).

I have recently become passionate about the idea of, as I am like to say, "Embracing Infinity".

Anyways, I am currently bored with most video/card/board games, music and writing/reading (I do still love them all at times, but for now, on to something else), and have spent a great deal of my life over the past year and especially month meditating on how all of existence is connected infinitely. My personal philosophy at this point in my life is that in order to realize Absolute Truth, one must try (at least) to focus on the fact that everything in existence is all one and yet simultaneously itself exactly as it is to everything else. Infinitely. And Absolute Truth is just that: Everything just is.

The buzzword these days to help experience and share this idea is "mindfulness". In my opinion, closer to the truth is the phrase "Just Be." Call it what you will -- words are irrelevant. But they, too, help.

It's good to be here and I hope we can all learn a lot from each other and have fun to boot!

Hi Paul, my 'guided' route to this forum is to me significant, to others it matters not at all. Even so called 'philosophers' here are non believers (more to follow in due course). It will be interesting to see how I get on, or do not get on with everyone here!?

I would say having read a few introductions, the fact nobody has replied to welcome you seems to me a bit odd.

By coincidence, or sychronicity I am posting this a the same time as you did on Saturday December the 18th 2021 (assuming it shows that time when I post by clicking 'Submit')..

Argh!! In my haste to post 'on time' I made a couple of typos.. I hate to make written mistakes it's irksome to me and no doubt to others reading 'wot I wrote'.. Corrections: sychronicity should read synchronicity and 'this a the same time' should read 'this at the same time'.

Roobaba you are Correct! :)

Anyway (as I would say) like you I have lost some of my interest in video/card/board games, being short on time (a bad thing, definitely not good) I find playing them causes me concern, I'm always thinking I could be doing something more worthwhile.. such as posting on a philosophy online forum. I have a need to ask questions, to 'go deep' on meaning etc.. although I do like playing games, I find it relaxing, I would prefer to be creative and design/make my own. Back on track.. I too am passionate about "Embracing Infinity", I consider existence and reality (more on these later) to be 'perfect', as in things could not be anything other than they are, than they were, or than they will be. Yes, I do not believe in free will. I do not subscribe to the so called accepted philosophical disciplines, the Subfields of Philosophy..

Philosophy of Mind. ...
Philosophy of Religion. ...
Philosophy of Science. ...
Political Philosophy. ...
Social Philosophy. ...
Philosophy of Law. ...
Medical Ethics.

(Yes I copied and pasted from a search in Google).. in short I do not trust academics or anyone who 'knows the answers' (the accepted answers in their particular field of speciality or 'expertise'. I am a 'staunch autodidact', I never had the opportunity to go to university to study, to be inculcated by the 'educational establishment' by 'the system', my candid response would be.. I will find out everything for myself. Enough from me.. for now at least! ;)

Note (I'm curious).. why is speciality showing up with a ziggy red underline (now ziggy has one too!).. I spelt speciality correctly didn't I..?

Blast, I missed a closed bracket, apologies for that I do hope you can forgive my incompetence. Ps, I don't swear, I never have, or use swear words in anything I write. I have read that use of swear words is good for us, I don't agree.. but that's a discussion for another time.
