What's the meaning of life?

Use this philosophy forum to discuss and debate general philosophy topics that don't fit into one of the other categories.

This forum is NOT for factual, informational or scientific questions about philosophy (e.g. "What year was Socrates born?"). Those kind of questions can be asked in the off-topic section.

Why does life have to have meaning or purpose? This is strictly, as far as we know, just a human concept. The best answer that I have come across that I believe makes a good case is that we ARE the universe experiencing itself through consciousness.

I like that 'meaning of life'.

Do you think that there is an end to what consciousness can reveal, which some people define as God ? Or is consciousness engaged in a constant struggle to find to meaning until the finish of the Universe?

I don't think consciousness is struggling to find meaning. We experiencing human consciousness are. All other life forms experience their own type of "consciousness", used loosely, which is completely different from the consciousness we experience. The universe as a whole is using us and everything else as "tools" to experience itself. It is us, it is everything not us.

You have to admit that was a good line. "No, do you sleep under one?"

Lucky, if "did you cross a bridge----?" describes string theory I wish you would explain the analogy as I'd like to know a little about string theory.

I believe he meant bridges are real and based on mathematical models.

Bridges have been built and have worked fine long before any mathematical models.

Well since advanced engineering principles existed before 2600 BCE, and the first known bridges are from about only 1500 BCE, I am not sure what type of bridges you are referring to that predated mathematical models
