Re Locked 'Off topic' thread

Post by Georgeanna »

in the Philosophy of Politics forum.
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=15881

I would be grateful for an explanation. To me,this seems a further inappropriate and clumsy piece of moderation which has taken place recently.

1. It looks like it's been started by ThomasHobbes. Any moderator should clarify this is not the case. As in previous editing of posts ' nothing to see here' by burning ghost.
2. There is no explanation of why the 'off topic' posts from the fascism discussion have been moved, rather than simply deleted. Would that not be the easier option ?

I recognise that there was a suggestion by Greta, namely:
' Let's keep these ad hominem posts as testament to, I don't know ... human folly ... a shrine to forthrightness ... or perhaps to show just how American politics brings people together.'

The keeping of 'off topic' posts might well shine a light on 'human folly'. But whose ?
If they are to kept in the politics forum, the title or the OP should identify the original thread e.g from Fascism discussion.
Or is every forum to have a special 'Off topic' thread to include all and every post deemed so by a moderator ?

Generally, I appreciate the work of the moderators; the time and energy involved.
Well done to all who make the work seem effortless with their light but firm touch.

I understand the need to try and 'fix' things but this is, in my opinion, is an example of immoderate moderation.
It is off putting and time wasting.

For transparency.

If there something in the split “off topic” exchange” you think is “on topic” then I’ll do my best to return it. I honestly don’t understand what problem you have here? The “topic” is locked so it will disappear over time, but if you really want I can post a link to the original thread in the OP?

For real.
I doubt you have any problems understanding what I outlined in the OP.
And elsewhere in my recent Feedback posts.
I won't waste any more time on this.

Another Locked 'Off topic' thread...

Post by Georgeanna »

...In the Philosophy of Politics forum

Started by burning ghost and looks like it's been started by me.
As before my objection stands re clarification and proper identification.
Although I know it is the work of burning ghost. Who else ? It is still proper and necessary to show who is responsible.

Nothing I can do about that.

I suggest if you want to continue to post your complaints after I made it explicit what I would do then this will happen.

I’ll go and add in BOLD letters that the thread wasn’t made by you. If you wish to keep complaining here please go ahead.

Nothing will be moved by me because you should openly voice your concerns here. If you’re worried about me interferring I with your other posts I suggest you ask the other mods becasue they can see every action I take easily enough - so if you truly believe I have editted or deleted your posts the ask them (it will take them 5 secs to check and tell you I haven’t - with the exception of what I’ve said above in reference to the Off Topic thread.)

Why is there nothing you can do about the way you start one of your 'Off Topic' locked threads ?

Why can't you take responsibility ?
Why would you 'go and add in BOLD letters' that the thread wasn't made by me, or anyone else ?
Why make a show of the negative, when a quiet positive would be more appropriate and informative ?

Thank you for your reassurances regarding transparency of any deletion of posts.

Where I can put posts and what I can do is limited. I cannot “move” posts to another thread (i’ve tried and failed) and I cannot change that you made the post you made.

Note: I don’t “start” a thread per se. I remove unwanted posts from the topic and then LOCK them.

Maybe another mod could suggest something?

Thanks for this, burning ghost.
And I apologise if I have made a hard job even more difficult.
I will back off now.

If you have further concerns please feel free to voice them - which I’m sure you’ll do anyway with or without my say so :)

No need for an apology. It’s not really much of a chore and I learn a lot.

Sorry for being obtuse but is the problem that we are trying to solve, name calling? If so, in my opinion, allowing such immature discourse to remain, merely is evidence that someone doesn't have a cogent argument, ie that they admit defeat on the topic being discussed.

Not on my part.

I’ve stated more than once I will only remove posts that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. If people ONLY to swear and insult people then I’ll remove their posts. If they make some kind of point related to the topic and swear/insult I don’t really mind.

Look at the posts I’ve removed and see if you can relate what ws said to the topic.

Also, I a talking about digressions either. Digressions are not what I am removing - again a brief look at what has been removed should make clear what I mean. Generally speaking I am not about to sieve through every thread looking for stray remarks. It is only really where a pointless unrelated exchange starts to fill pages.
