I don't think people have innocence to begin with. We are all creatures of personal gain and enjoyment, regardless of any positive outcomes. From the time we are born are seek satisfaction, and it is only as we grow older than we learn to maintain and suppress some of our more primal urges. Well most of us can.

When we are babies we embrace any one and every one. We are incredibly trusting, we fall asleep in the arms of any one. As we begin to lose our innocence the trust starts to go, until it gets to a point where we trust no one, we do not even trust ourselves.

Yes, the word innocence needs to be qualified. One can 'know' about murder but that knowing does not make that person guilty of murder. So what is innocence?
That one knows about murder, but still does not believe people are capable of committing murder. That is innocence.
Do whatever you do, do what a good man would do, and what is a good man?, I do not know, but at every point, every turn, do what a good man would do.

Master Khan replies, just like a caterpillar turns into a butterfly, you have lost your innocence.

Grasshopper must have been about 14 at the time.

I remember that one, loved that show...

I was 18 and had been a bit of a trouble maker, caught now & then by cars with flashy lights on top... But this time the officer actually said- "You arn't a kid anymore *grinning* your going to real jail now, buddy." Funny, before that I felt innocent while breaking laws, but after that little talk I stopped breaking laws, having lost my innocence... :?

To answer this question, I feel we should all read more fiction, watch more drama, listen to more popular songs, and give philosophy a break so it can focus on the stuff it's good at, which is not things like, how one loses one's innocence :)

Party pooper! Why should you care what others want to know? Is it OK for other thinkers to think or discuss issues you may not be interested in? What was your answer to the OP question? If you don't have one, feel free to move on without demeaning others.

This is a different twist on the meaning of innocence - I like it very much.
Things are not always as they appear; it's a matter of perception.

The eyes can only see what the mind has, is, or will be prepared to comprehend.

I felt that my innocence was forcefully "lost", when I became more familiar with how the world works, and it kind of followed the awareness of my mortality., combined with several factors... However, this was forced in a sense in the following way, being told that I was "old" , at the age of 35, reaching a certain professional level, joint with the deterioration of my mother's health, my siblings getting further apart and some online bullying.
All of these kindof forced the issue in a combined manner, though it was more of mental breakdown due to exhaustion instead of innocence...Let me explain further...
I never considered losing my innocence due to sex, (I have had sex many times before hand).
I never considered losing my innocence due to theft or other petty crime, (though I have rarely went out of the way to commit theft, it had happened before hand through online piracy or even minor theft through change). And some months before , I may have been involved to some tax mismanagement issues (though I have often been late at my taxes, often at the expense of additional penalties). In my opinion what happened beyond the mental breakdown, is some triggering done artificially over the electromagnetic frequencies...
I never considered losing my innocence or being aware of my mortality at my father's death or when my siblings moved away.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When it happened , I was basically told that I am "old" (just at 35) and this triggered the whole thing....At the same time, my mother's health started deteriorating as well as the relations with my in-laws...Thus, when all came to be, I realized that I may well start to think over my longterm future... But I do not exclude some psychological online bulling that took place eventually leading to everything...
