Where is my post?

Post by GE Morton »

I started a new topic in Ethics, "On the 'rights' of Nature," on April 4. It still has not appeared. I understand new topics are moderated, but for 10 days?

Hi EB . . .

I'm not seeing it in the Ethics or Political Philosophy sections (it could go in either one). Is it in some other section?

Thanks.

It is in General Philosophy and in recent topics. I made no change to it and so it should be in the category that you selected.

Perhaps we're seeing different versions of those pages. The post is not appearing in the "Recent Posts" section I'm seeing. Nor in the Ethics and Morality or General Philosophy sections. See the attached screen cap (sorry for the size reduction, forum software rejected original size as "too large."

It should be there now. I am not new at dealing with the moderation queue but I was only recently made a full moderator and the panel changed a bit. Apparently, I had edited your topic instead of posting it. You may want to double check if anything is missing... Sorry about the delay.

Should all topics and messages be validated to be posted? I must say this is a bit odd and tiresome.

That's for the site's owner to decide.

I remember thinking it was odd and tiresome too for the forum to vet the first 20 posts. If people could be trusted to be even vaguely reasonable and responsible, the rule would not exist.

I can somewhat understand, but it's a bit long. I'm waiting for the topic that I posted yesterday. My experience suggests (I owned for a time the biggest French forum of philosophy and never encountered problems – but it's maybe because in France we do not have this anglo-troll culture) it might be a drag for this little world in the future. :bored:

Oh, I see. It takes time, and I posted it 4 times, an hour and so later still not there. It's 3:14 AM, time to catch some Z's.

Posting a new topic as opposed to just a reply to a topic can take even longer as moderators have been requested to let all new topics stand a bit to give a chance to the owner to approve of them first. So sendind multiple copies will not help in speeding up the process, especially for new topics.

The notification " ...posted awaiting moderation..." did not appear at first, or perhaps I did not notice it. That is why I reposted, thinking I was doing something wrong. Thank you.
