Re: Catch-22 Workaround
As you know Catch-22 is full of examples of circular logic, your's is only one example. Since the story is heavy in sarcasm, I'm not sure anything Yossarian tried would have "worked", since that is the point of the story.WanderingGaze22 wrote: ↑January 15th, 2022, 3:35 am In Catch-22w by Joseph Heller, a bomber pilot named Yossarian tries to get out of bombing missions by claiming he is crazy. The military will not allow someone medically diagnosed as insane fly planes. The “catch” is that only a sane man would recognize the dangers of being a fighter pilot. Because Yossarian can see and analyze the risk, he must be sane. So the military requires him to continue his missions. Other than displaying noticeable signs of insanity and pretending to not recognize it, how could Yossarian have got himself out of his situation? What other scenarios could this logic be applied to and bring about the concept of common sense like how it was used here?

He can place a bowl of spaghetti on his head, waving a stalk of celery and wearing only dirty underpants barge into the CO's office demanding to fly planes more often!!WanderingGaze22 wrote: ↑January 15th, 2022, 3:35 am In Catch-22w by Joseph Heller, a bomber pilot named Yossarian tries to get out of bombing missions by claiming he is crazy. Re: Catch-22 Workaround
I imagine he would be discharged from the military, but he would have to keep this up for the longest time in order to avoid piloting. Worst case scenario, he has to be kept at arm's length in public and the opposite with psychiatric care. Bottom line, trying to prove he is crazy and maintaining it will be the least of his problems.
