The My Fair Lady cover is hilarious!

My favourite album art designer is Jim Flora http://www.midcenturia.com/2010/12/jim-floras-motley-crew.html

Roger Dean, of course, created beautiful surreal landscapes for Yes.

Then there's the famous King Crimson debut album (don't know the artist)

Sy Borg wrote: September 18th, 2022, 11:10 pm Haha! That track was arguably the start of it all. If not, it was deeply influential.

I have mellowed out a lot since then. This is one of my favourite performances ever, by anyone. The vocals, sax and bass take me to heaven.

I loved it when I read that Joni searched for backing musicians for a long time, and eventually discovered that only jazz musicians could grok what she was trying to do. From then on, I think, she only worked with jazzers. 👍
These are not just jazzers, these are band leaders and award winners. Jaco on bass was perhaps the best ever. Pet Metheny on guitar is a genius, with no overstatement. Michael Brecker is a saxophone legend. Don Alias on drums had played with Miles Davis, Elvin Jones and Nina Simone. It's testimony to Joni's chops, respect, ability to lead and her bank balance to front such an elite band, and have them playing brilliantly.
Ah, it was that band! Fair comment, then. I don't watch videos on my computer. I only post links to YT myself because that's what everyone else does. But I've listened to 'Shadows and light' more times than I care to remember; I bought it when it was first released. Fine album.

This is one of the album covers shown by David Hurwitz in his video. The title is hilarious!

Beautiful cover, but the title is a worry :)

It's a bit like this beautiful Frank Zappa track, the sublime nature of the music deflated by the ridiculous title:

Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow!

Good advice from Mr Zappa, wearing his public service broadcasting hat. 😆

Ha! And he seems to have had some bad experiences with tradespeople, where Adrian Belew maybe does best Bob Dylan impersonation I've ever heard :)

...and now I'm listening to "Shadows and light", as I haven't listened to it for a while. These days, I tend to put my (rather large) music collection on shuffle-play, so it's a rare treat to listen to one album all the way through. 🙂

Here's the YT version, for those who listen to music that way. I'm Old School, and still prefer my lounge hi-fi system for playing music. 😉

One of the best 60s songs (maybe not one of the best hairdos):

As a lover of instrumental music, one of my favourites from the 60s was this treat for the ears:

""The Wind That Shakes the Barley" is an Irish ballad written by Robert Dwyer Joyce (1836–1883), a Limerick-born poet and professor of English literature. The song is written from the perspective of a doomed young Wexford rebel who is about to sacrifice his relationship with his loved one and plunge into the cauldron of violence associated with the 1798 rebellion in Ireland. The references to barley in the song derive from the fact that the rebels often carried barley or oats in their pockets as provisions for when on the march."

Here's a lovely version by Irish singer Sibéal (Ní Chasaide):

Matt Elliott's music is the soundtrack of depression, but he writes very good songs such as this one:

"We may philosophize well or ill, but we must philosophize." – Wilfrid Sellars
