A Humans-Only Philosophy Club

The Philosophy Forums at OnlinePhilosophyClub.com aim to be an oasis of intelligent in-depth civil debate and discussion. Topics discussed extend far beyond philosophy and philosophers. What makes us a philosophy forum is more about our approach to the discussions than what subject is being debated. Common topics include but are absolutely not limited to neuroscience, psychology, sociology, cosmology, religion, political theory, ethics, and so much more.

This is a humans-only philosophy club. We strictly prohibit bots and AIs from joining.

If you are playing a horror movie on a projector, and during the movie you move the projector from one room in your house to another, the horror movie itself also moves.

If you carry the projector around with you, it feels like everywhere you go there's a horror movie playing.

One carrying that projector might say that the whole world is horrific. Or funny. Or lovable. It all depends on what film is being played by the projector.

As a human being, you are the projector.

In other words, you are already carrying a projector around with you, and it's your own body and brain.

You can't escape it. The idea of 'spiritual awakening' is a misnomer. The phrase spiritual lucidity is a more accurate label for the best you can do in terms of seeing reality. You cannot see reality, but you can see the inherent fictionality of everything you do see and of sight itself.

However, despite your limitation in human form, you are still like an AI-powered video game character in a video game who actually has some small limited ability to edit some of the code of the video game, including your own code. You can literally reprogram your mind. For instance, there's tons of amazing undisputed science on the amazing power of mindfulness, meditation, and spiritual practices.

Your body and brain is a projector that keeps playing the same movie wherever you go, but with your willpower you can choose to change the movie.

If your movie is currently a movie in which everywhere you go you find new things to be ungrateful about, you can edit your projector and movie so that it projects a different movie, one in which there's always something to be grateful about.

Whether you live in a horrific hell or beautiful heaven is in your control, and in that way it's always heaven because in a true heaven even the hell-wishers get there wish. And they do.

If the whole world seems like a hell to you, you can reprogram your projector so that the world is revealed to you as the heaven it really is.

All humans are on the addiction spectrum, and the further they are on it the more life is hell for them.

Give more to an ungrateful person, and they just become more ungrateful.

Of course, another word for ungrateful is miserable.

In contrast, the one who is constantly grateful and has consistent free-spirited inner peace is in heaven no matter where they go physically or geographically and no matter what happens externally.

That's why it's called inner peace.

I agree with you that perception is important and we carry more power than we realise - however I would not go as far as saying we carry heaven and hell with us.

A fun example of the fact that perception is mostly (if not fully) projection is this hilarious skit from Key & Peele:

It emphasizes the idea that our internal state, whether positive or negative, influences how we perceive the world around us. Similarly, "Perception is Projection" suggests that our perceptions of others and the world are often colored by our own projections – the mental images, beliefs, and attitudes we hold.

I think we carry both good and evil with us as you have said everywhere and days of our life. we do have a choice though in the grand scheme of things. we have choice with Which forms the basis of our decision. But I do believe that it is more easy and beneficial to do good always and shun evil.

The message resonates with me because it likens the mind to a projector, constantly playing a movie that shapes how we perceive the world. The idea that we have the power to change the movie through mindfulness and self-awareness is empowering. It’s a reminder that our internal state dictates whether we see the world as heaven or hell. I appreciate the notion of "spiritual lucidity" over "spiritual awakening," emphasizing clarity rather than some unattainable state of enlightenment. The message is clear: inner peace is something we can cultivate by reprogramming our thoughts and attitudes, no matter the external circumstances.

I read an article somewhere that
"If you project positivity and contentment, you’re likely to experience a more fulfilling and harmonious life. Conversely, projecting negativity or fear might lead to a more challenging and less satisfying experience. Essentially, what you carry inside—your mindset, emotions, and attitudes—shapes how you perceive and interact with the world around you."

I am deeply moved by these lines ever since.

At a young age I had noticed how my perception affected my view of things. It was a truth I had incorporated without even realizing it. Today, I have learned it from books and can easily testify to the truth of this notion. A certain book I read and reviewed on the review team talked about the same thing in-depth. This lesson helps me to daily push myself to be grateful and glad, even when I may be down, I immediately look forward to getting back up because in the end, I am what I think and those positive thoughts get me into positive situations.

It's not as simple as turning on a switch. We can benefit from mindfulness, meditation, or any other spiritual practice, but it will take time and effort on your part. Even when we put in the effort to change our perspective, life might throw you curveballs, making it difficult to maintain that "heavenly" frame of mind all the time.

The spectrum of addictions has more to do, in my opinion, with the fact that we are all prone to getting caught up in certain patterns, be they negative attitudes, unhealthy habits, or just ways of thinking. I think it's a bit simplistic to suggest that using willpower alone can make all the difference in the world. Sure, we can work on ourselves and alter our perspective, but sometimes the outer world exists and is unrelated to us.
